The Literacy Foundation offers a communication channel with its various audiences on social media. By subscribing to our accounts, you will learn more about literacy in Quebec, our services, our programs and our achievements.

While we appreciate your messages and comments, our exchanges must be governed by rules of conduct so that they take place in a framework that is acceptable and as positive as possible for everyone. It is therefore important to be aware of our code of conduct called “Netiquette”.

Respect for people and laws

  • Courtesy and politeness are required in all comments and interventions.
  • Comments made on the Foundation’s Facebook page must relate to the Foundation and issues related to its mission. Off-topic comments are not accepted.
  • Insults, personal attacks, harassment, intimidation and threats will not be tolerated.
  • Defamatory, hateful, offensive, xenophobic, discriminatory, homophobic, sexist, indecent, disrespectful to individuals (e.g., based on ethnicity, religion, or age group), inciting violence, or inappropriate comments will not be accepted.
  • Advertising or commercial messages are prohibited unless authorized in writing by the Foundation (which may reject them at its discretion).
  • Repeated abusive messages will be systematically deleted and their authors will be banned from accessing the Foundation’s accounts.
  • Users are required to comply with applicable Canadian and Quebec legislation, including but not limited to the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, the Civil Code of Quebec, the Criminal Code, the Copyright Act and other intellectual property laws.
  • You must have the permission of the persons or organizations concerned if you wish to share content of which you are not the author or on which you do not hold the rights of use.
  • Users must respect the confidentiality of personal information and the privacy of individuals. In particular, they must avoid mentioning the names of individuals and their addresses.

Content posted by the Foundation

  • All public messages issued or forwarded by the Foundation are in French. In some cases, the Foundation may use English technical terms. In addition, messaging is available in French and English.
  • Messages posted solely in capital letters, or the usage of other characters intended to symbolize shouting or to communicate in an aggressive manner toward others or situations must be avoided.
  • Hyperlinks to other sites may be included in a message when it is not for marketing purposes and does not create a false impression of endorsement by or association with the Foundation. The Foundation is not responsible for the content of external sites.

Consequences of non-compliance

  • If the Foundation judges that you have violated any of the rules set forth in this Netiquette, the Foundation may, in its sole discretion, temporarily or permanently suspend your access to its social network accounts and take any other action deemed appropriate under the circumstances.
  • In addition to banning access, the Foundation may remove illegal or unauthorized information or other content you have posted and, as appropriate, refer it to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.
  • The Foundation may, but is not obligated to, notify you by email or otherwise, of your failure to comply and provide you with an opportunity to remedy your actions.
  • You are encouraged to notify and cooperate with the Foundation should you discover that someone has violated this Netiquette.

General provisions

  • The Foundation reserves the right to change the Netiquette at any time.
